BlueAura and the Environment
Whether you're considering upgrading your pool equipment or just want a few tips for an eco-friendly pool, let BlueAura help.
Conserving water is beneficial to the environment and your wallet
Many service companies offer to drain and refill your pool every spring with fresh water. For the average pool, this wastes between 20,000-30,000 gallons of water plus the expense of having new water delivered. Yet, how could you and your family swim in the murky water revealed under your winter cover? Every pool has a filtration system that's designed to handle this very problem. Put it to work. You'll be amazed at the sparkling water in your pool after only a day or two.
Unlike typical sand and D.E. filters, cartridge filters don't require backwashing, which can waste anywhere from 100 to 250 gallons of water during each backwash cycle. Simply remove the cartridges and rinse off with a garden hose. If your existing filter requires backwashing, don't follow a regular cleaning schedule. Try backwashing only at the manufacturer's recommended pressure setting. Usually this is about 10psi higher than normal operation.
Repair any swimming pool leaks. Even a small leak in either pool equipment or the pool's structure represents a substantial waste. In fact, an inch-a-day leak in a 15-by-30-foot pool can waste approximately 102,000 gallons of water per year!
Energy consumption
Swimming pools lose energy in a variety of ways, but evaporation is by far the largest source of energy loss. Evaporating water requires tremendous amounts of energy. It only takes 1 BTU to raise 1 pound of water 1 degree, but each pound of 80 degree Fahrenheit water that evaporates takes a whopping 1,048 BTU of heat out of the pool.
The evaporation rate from an outdoor pool varies depending on the pool's temperature, air temperature and humidity, and the wind speed at the pool surface. The higher the pool temperature and wind speed and the lower the humidity, the greater the evaporation rate. In windy areas, you can add a windbreak, trees, shrubs, or a fence to reduce evaporation.
Covering a pool when it is not in use is the single most effective means of reducing pool heating costs. Savings of 50% - 70% are possible. Automatic covers have permanently mounted reels that automatically cover and uncover the pool at the push of a button. This prevents anything or anybody from getting into the pool. They even support the weight of several people.
Whether it's time for a new pump, filter, or automated cover consider equipment that takes advantage of green technology. BlueAura offers a complete line of products that offer a more environmentally friendly solution for pool equipment and gives you the added benefit of lower operating costs year to year.
Chemicals
Chemicals are necessary for your pool. No service provider can claim otherwise. There are steps we can take to reduce the demand for chemicals though. Chlorine is the single biggest chemical expense the average pool owner makes each season. Its unpleasant and can be dangerous to handle. What if you never had to purchase another bucket of chlorine tablets or liquid shock again? The solution lies in an unlikely source: table salt.
A chlorine generator charges sodium ions and converts them into chlorine. After the chlorine sanitizes your pool, it's reconstituted as salt and starts the process anew. The beauty of a chlorine generator is its ability to constantly produce smaller quantities of chlorine than a conventional chemical feeder or floater. Because the chlorine is pure, the odor, stinging eyes, and irritated skin caused by additives in packaged chlorine are eliminated.
We extend this promise to our customers: BlueAura technicians will never add unnecessary chemicals to your swimming pool. Properly tested and maintained water will always need less treatment and can save you hundreds of dollars every season in chemical costs.
